Rybelsus is used on its own if the blood sugar level is not properly controlled by diet and exercise alone and the patient cannot use Metformin. Rybelsus is used in combination with one or more other medicines for diabetes when they are not enough to control your blood sugar levels. Rybelsus contains the same the same medication as Ozempic, but can be taken orally. Semaglutide belongs to a class of medicines called GLP-1 receptor agonists (glucagon-likepeptide-1 receptor agonists). It is the first oral and first glucagon-like peptide (GLP-1). GLP-1 drugs are non-insulin treatments for people with type 2 diabetes. Rybelsus helps the body make more insulin when your blood sugar is high.
